Why a helmet, why now
Shared e-scooter use grew fast across Italy and Europe, with ridership up by hundreds of percent in just a couple of years. Injuries grew even faster than ridership did. Most trips are short and unplanned, usually under twenty minutes, and almost nobody carries a helmet for a ride they didn't expect to take. Ebi Helmet is built around that behavior instead of fighting it. It needed to be light and flat enough to live in a bag or backpack until the moment it's actually needed.
We based the design on how these falls really happen, mostly frontal, sometimes lateral, rarely backward, and on which parts of the head take the impact: skull, temples, forehead, and the back of the neck. The shell's shape and its protective layers were built around those same zones, sized for everyday urban falls rather than high speed crashes.
Folds flat, wears easily
The shell folds flat on itself using the elasticity of the material, no rigid joint involved. It flexes down for storage and springs back into its worn shape when needed. It's a small enough motion to do with one hand while still holding a phone or a bag strap.
Construction
The shell is built as a sandwich. There's a hard outer layer, a foam core that absorbs impact, and a soft inner lining, all flexible enough together to fold with the shell instead of resisting it. A ventilated mesh liner, the orange lattice you see in the diagram, keeps the helmet breathable enough for short rides in warm weather instead of treating airflow as an afterthought.
